The Riddle

Prolog

Eerie silence fell across the room the instant they walked into the club. Everyone in town knew who they were and they were feared by both men and women alike. The group of four only appeared at the setting of the sun and by morning light would disappear to the castle high in the mountains making the streets safe once again.

Salem was a small town with a small population, but they were still know world wide. It wasn't the tales of witches or ghost that made them so popular....it was the fact that they populated the largest colony of vampires...or so it used to be.

Their population was large, quite large, but their breed became a game to the townsmen and the power of the vampires were weakened when they were hunted and tortured. Suddenly no one feared them and their population began to dwindle as their tortures turned into deaths and slowly the town became uninterested in the colony.

Four sires are all that remain in the breed and their need to populate brought fear back to the town again leaving each man, woman, and child running scared.

Not many would venture from their homes once the sun would set, but those that dared never went out alone. To look at the four men one could never imagine how deadly they could be, but in their determination to keep their kind alive their hunt had begun and everyone was in danger.

Men were needed by them for their blood, their source for living, it kept them alive and kept them young and the power that ran through them once they'd been fed was unstoppable. The women were needed not only for their breeding, but for pleasure as well, but not just any woman was chosen. She had to be perfect, had to fit their criteria for producing the perfect child, and those who didn't fit or were unable to breed were used as their blood source. Those chosen women would carry their future......and their future would begin now.
