NECTAR: Fiction Speaks!

As many of you know I have ideas pop into my head every three minutes which is why I, like many other authors, have dozens of incomplete stories because our imaginations take us into so many different avenues. This new idea is all about you and your participation. I want to know what are your top three story choices in NF Fan Fiction and why? Not just, "this is what I'm reading now" but I want you to tell me what stories did you read that really effected you or left a lasting impression.

With enough responses I will then go ahead and feature a number of these stories along with brief bios and facts on the authors if they are available. I just thought it would be a cool thing to do. If you have a top three that comes to mind respond here in comments with a brief reason as to why you chose those stories and why you were so moved. Thanks in advance, everyone!

I think this is a great idea!  Here's my choices...

1. Say Something by bogglethemind (Lisa).  This story is just fantastic!  It really takes you through every emotion and you can't help but root for the couple by story's end.  I've re-read it twice already and know I will again.  Yeah, it's THAT good.

2. (Un)tying the Knot by SomethingBlue42 (Heather). What can I say about this story?  I've never in my life felt so sorry for a fictional character before.  I have laughed, cried, and screamed at the screen because of the things in this story.  I think it should be a must read for every fiction writer. It makes you want to step your game up.

3. Skin Deep by Timberlake (Mari) This story is deep.  Not for the faint of heart in any way.  It pushes you to see past ignorance and focus on the love that is blossoming between the two leads. It's in its early stages but stands to be a masterpiece.  It's beautiful to see and feel the love growing, and you seriously won't be disappointed.

1. Yellow by Ashley - there's just something so believable and real about this story and many of ashley's stories. The characters stick with me.
2. Lovelight by Hollie - excellent character development, tone, and voice. a romance without all the implausible drama and cheese.
3. Fishbowl by Mixtape For a Fool - sexy and romantic and sexy

Thanks, ladies!  Great authors, great pieces! Any others?

1. Another Song (All Over Again) by ltaylor03 - Lauren is amazing!  The emotional depth of her characters and her storytelling blow me away every chapter.

2. Stand By Me by Bobbilynn - I love the way she writes each of the guys. The dynamics of the group when they are together and the love and friendship they share really come out as they are faced with a tragic situation and learning how to cope and support each other.

3. Lucky Me by Beautiful_Distraction - Whitney's power of description leaves me in awe. The way she is able to paint the picture in my head of what is happening is a talent I envy. This story is great because it's about building a friendship and learning to trust again.

1. Something Like You by Azchickadee. I LOVE this story! I always find myself going back to this story to re-read it or even a few chapters. There is nothing like sitting down and escaping with a great read!

2. (Un)tying the Knot by SomethingBlue42. For me, this one isn't so much about this specific story (which is fantasically written and developed) but more so about the author. No matter what mood Im in, I can always go to her stories and find a perfect read. Creative, daring and a great writer!

3. Lucky Me by Beautiful_Distraction. I think anyone who reads this story feels the same as me, that we are a part of the story, experiencing everything that is happening. It's a talent for an author to convey the setting so vividly, and she does it very well.

I haven't decided if my comments really answer the challenge questions, but I wanted to celebrate the authors of my favorite stories. I wish I was a better writer, and if I could write like anyone, these 3 authors would be at the top.

Ok, great idea! But this is super hard; only three??? = Anyway...

1) When All That's Left Is You by lesanne -- One of the few stories that I can read, beginning to end, over and over. The thing that really gets me with this one is that Leslie did an amazing job of creating and developing her characters into realistic and complex people, and by the end, I feel like I know them. The progression of Shay and Justin's relationship is also really organic and sweet. Plus, this story ignited my Sophia Bush love, so thanks for that, too. :)

2) Say Something by bogglethemind -- I don't think there's a story Lisa's written that I don't like, but I really love this one. I think that beyond being one of the more daring writers in the fandom (who makes you think, also), Lisa is an amazing storyteller, and this story isn't an exception. I love her characters, I love the rollercoaster rides and messes that their lives become, and I love how honest and candid Lisa's writing is.

3) Justin/Talia trilogy by Tracey -- This might be my favorite story (or, well, collection of stories) with one of my favorite main characters, and it has stood the test of time for me! Tracey's really good at telling this story, combining drama and humour and romance in a way that's not cheesy or overdone. I just love it!

Well, what the hades? LOL, if you want to post more than the three feel free to! Great reads are always sweet for everyone! =)

Wow this is hard!!!! Even starting to narrow down is impossible...

*an hour later*

1) Disenchanted Lullaby by Wasted Headspace. I love the way the story grows so much over time and you can see the characters growing and maturing with it.  There's real progression in it and I love that Kenz is never afraid to let her characters be stupid or show their flaws.

2) Complication by bogglethemind. I never sympathise with infidelity in stories, even when they're supposed to be the couple to root for/the main romance, but here I actually felt for the cheater. The emotional struggle for Natalia is so simple yet so relatable.

3) Waking Up In Vegas by katethegreat. Such an overdone plot (we got drunk and married in Vegas) effortlessly made palatable again by brilliant characterisation and a fresh voice.  Also a good example of how to make a mismatched couple feel real.

4) Deranged Delusions by westernway. It's rib crackingly funny yet has real intelligence to it. Lauren is such a memorable leading lady

- Hollie on Oct 14, 2010 05:37 pm

Oh Gawd. Only three?!? Um, let me think.....

1 - Hooked by MeganMonster. I swear to God that this thing.......honestly. There are no words. I've cried, I've laughed, I've yelled, I've wanted to hug these characters. I cannot wait to buy her first book. It will be just as amazing.

2 - Quicksand/House on Fire by Glow. He is my perfect man and she's just wonderful and strange and I really feel like I'm with these characters. If I could have any story here made into this movie, this would be it.

3 - Wake up in Vegas by KateTheGreat. Not just this one but the entire series. Maddison is my hero and I want to grow up and be just like her. I rooted for her from day one and I couldn't be happier with the ending. Well, I could if there was babies.

4 - Strawberry Waltz by MixTapeForAFool. I FEEL like I'm a fly on the wall and I'm living this story.

5 - Broken Wings by Hollie. I fucking love everything about this. The idea is something I wish I'd thought of.

Yes, that was more than three. I'm super indecisive. Sue me.

- meggie on Oct 14, 2010 05:54 pm
LMAO @ You guys...ignore the only (3) specifications. Bring 'em all on! I wish I could find this story by an author named Tara. It absolutely inspired me to become a better writer but I can't think of the title to save my life and I know she doesn't write for the fandom at all anymore...
- Nik on Oct 14, 2010 06:50 pm

1. Hooked by MeganMonster: I love this story, it makes me feel emotions that I didn't know were there until I read them. That sounds weird but that's really the only way to put it!

2. Do Over by Timberlake; I love all of her work but this one is so real. I feel like Sash could be a friend of mine's and I'm watching her make all of these stupid decisions and not listen to her heart! And I want to scream at her and comfort her at the same time...(sigh)

3. Okay with Ashley I don't know weather to choose In Fear of Close Objects or Stole My Cool because I love them both. But with a gun to my head I would probably choose Stole My Cool. This Story pisses me off so much, but I love it! Everything I tell Kerry not to do she does it! But it keeps it interesting. I have read both several times

And if I could put a few more, StarGril by Sox  and Made of Amethyst would both be in there...but I'll play by the rules. lol

- cagf5000 on Oct 18, 2010 09:51 am

Three, Nik, really?!?! Argh, I really had to think about this one. It's so hard. I rather birth sextuplets with no drugs then have to choose, but I'll do it.

1. Save Me From Myself - Bobbilynn

The emotion that her writing evokes takes hold of my heart, grips it, squeezes it, hugs it, chokes it, and releases it. All before it repeats it. I love it.

2. All I Wanna Do... - MissM

I've told her before that everytime with every scene I read of these two, Serena & JC, I feel bad. I feel like I'm spying on their private moments. Her talents with description put me in a corner in the room with every scene. It's truly magical to read her work.

3. Love Song - Azchickadee

I think this one is just genius. We're all fans, and we all dream of this. Some of us understand the difference between reality and fantasy, but with this story, we blur the lines and live. It's truly a great piece of art.

1. Say Something- Bogglethemind, cause OMG sooo good.

2. Do Over-Timberlake. I can't help but love Sash cause she is sooooo heartbreaking in her insecurity(remember that line.lol)

3.A Love Worth Learning-Somethingblue42( I can't BELIEVE you guys haven't given this story props. UR CRAZY!!!!!!

- monique32 on Oct 25, 2010 07:12 pm

Wounded By Nikki - I still think about this story all the time. I loved it when i read it an have read it a couple of times.

Sexual Suicide By Kahli & Milla - this story has such a great plot and the characters are awesome, i love this story!

(Un)tying the Knot by SomethingBlue42 - This story was one that was always good for a laugh, i can't say anymore because i could go on an on an on about it! Roxie! lol

- Ambs07 on Oct 27, 2010 01:54 am

1.  Girl Friday by Sox - Sari is a steadfast heroine, but what makes this story one of my favorites is the evolution of her relationship with Justin.  How someone you spend all of every day with can suddenly turn into something completely new can be a cliche, but it is written so well here it becomes an exciting story.

2.  I Run To You by whit1210 - The story is fairly new, but I am kinda obsessed.  The plot is unlike any other fiction I have read - part romance and part thriller with total unpredictability.  Every chapter pulls me in more!

3.  Untying The Knot - SomethingBlue42 - Clearly everyone loves this story.  For me, it's the descriptive writing and the details that make it such a real story.  Charlotte is so relatable.
